things happened so suddenly that at times u dun even have the time to react.
today, something dangerous and life-threatening happened to me (erm of course in the lab). One of my lab mate, did not monitor her solution carefully when she is heating it. She walked away while heating it and this is where the life-threatening situation come about.
obviously, the heating shld be done in the fume cupboard cause its dealing with highly toxic volatile chemical -- conc HCl. A drop on ya hand will cause corrosion! maybe to pple like me with super thick skin will have irritation only ba.... probably...
so while waiting for my other coursemates, ii loittered ard that area where she is boiling her mixture ( she is not doing it in the fume cupboard >.<) and just when ii walked passed her table, a loud explosion occur and the next moment, everyone is choking. I was stunned for that very moment.
Obviously a large amt of conc HCl was added and overheating it cause the explosion. The lucky thing was that the flask did not shatter (if not ii probably will be lying in the hospital now!). The stream of white fumes that could be observed and the smell was horrible. Taking too much in can also kill!
Haiz, ii dunO to consider myself lucky or unlucky. But imagine if the flask also explode and ii am like just 20cm away. GOSH!
*RUN!!
